The Roots of Soulfly is Sepultura!

Seriously, one of the best albums ever created was Sepultura's "Roots". If you call yourself a critic of metal, how could you posibly not like this album?? I know some classify it as "nu metal" but this is simple blasphemy.

Sure, Max Calavera disbanded and formed Soulfly...a band of which I now call "Roots, Inc.". all the kids out there think I'm crazy, but we all know its true. Think about it...Roots hit the shelves and it became the most brutal album of the year...if not of the 90's altogether. Then the 2000's came and Soulfly hit the streets..only to find it was Roots re-invented.

I have seen Soulfly 5 times live. amazing. Even better than their records....But when they play "Attitude", "Cut-throat", or "Roots, Bloody, Roots" the entire place goes Ape.

Do not settle for the imitation....take the real. Now for those of you who havent listened to the "Roots" since 1999....blow off the dust and spin the disc. Remove all foreign objects from your reach...because something is going to break!!

LONG LIVE THE "ROOTS"

Galloping Geezer.......

....Tonight, I will be visting the home studio of Pat "Dr. Rock" Gibson to play some bass on a couple of Sabbath tunes he is recording; "Black Sabbath" and "NIB". Honestly, I have not listened to much Sabbath (with Ozzy) in recent Years....my Sabbath ventures of late have been all about the demon dwarf, Ronnie James!!!!!!! As I was learning the songs this afternoon, suddenly it was like I was 15 Years old all over again. "NIB" might be the greatest song of all time (at least that is how I feel today):). As a lover of "The Metal," I'm not exactly reinventing the metal mold by proclaiming that Ozzy rules but the 20 minute experience made me fall in love with old school Sabbath again. Basic, bluesy, straight up Metal in E Minor being held down by Bill Ward and our beloved "Galloping Geezer!" What I am getting at is this; with all of the crapolla "metal" outfits out today (yes, I am once again referring to you and your kind, Sully, Fred, MegaDave (Can't believe he's still at it), M. Shadows, etc.), there is no reason we can't enjoy rediscovering some truly premium Metal. In the spirit of our Lord, our Metal forefathers will always be there for us (even when you temporarily turn your back on them to embrace Limp Bizkit in the late '90s). So, all my Brothers and Sisters....dust of your old Suicidal Tendencies, Maiden, Metallica & Sepultura albums, turn 'em up to "eleven" and sing it with me.........."ROOTS!!!!!!! BLOODY ROOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Live for this...

......I was listening to a little Hatebreed tonight. Not crazy about the name because I'm down with breeding some love but I must say these dudes do rock a bit. I think of all of the metal/hardcore bands out there today and they have to be one of the more superior ones. Pretty simple formula but straight up nasty (in a good way); killer riffs, gutteral but not ridiculous vocals and the ability to inspire a healthy pit and release of aggression......

King's X.....

.....Why don't more people know who they are? I'm driving to a lunch meeting today and the only "Rock" I can find on the radio is that terrible "Band," Godsmack. Some dude with multiple personalities whining about his "Whiskey Hangover" in a voice that can only be described as the unholy amalgamation of a poor attempt to sound like Eddie Vedder, Layne Staley, James Hetfield and the Cookie Monster. When Godsmack decides who they want to be; Metallica? Pantera? Alice in Chains?, I might listen to them. I needed some King's X to cleanse the palate.....
