the GATEWAYS of the Metal.

In the scene of extreme metal, the notorious Dimmu Borgir are no strangers. Having just released their ninth Studio album, it is safe to say these lads have been the originators of theatrics and symbolism in their music.

I am not the world's largest fan of the Black Metal, but I can appreciate a good song when it is written. Taking this from their Abrabadabra Album, "Gateways" is so amazingly balanced between Metal, Symphony, and lyrics of the End of Time.

Welcome to some truly gloriously metally deliciousness. Enter the "Gateways".

Maiden Still Rips!!!!!

Fear of the DarkIndeed, my brethren....I did quite see the Maiden that is Iron in the almighty Falls of Cuyahoga last week. The lads have not lost a step since I last saw them in February of 1991 (my Lord, am I really that old?). Bruce's voice held up nicely, the band was tight and the Miller Lite was plentifull. I went with my buddy, Allen and we did enjoy ourselves immensely! We met James Labrie (Dream Theater Vocalist) in the hotel \m/. I can proudly proclaim that The Metal is alive and strong in 2010 and I believe the 20,000 folks that attended the show would agree. Do you love Metal? Are you "Afraid of the Dark?"

Desmondo's Daily Offering - "The Reckoning" by Iced Earth

The Glorious Burden/Special EditionIf you are not down with the Earth that is Iced, I must pray for your soul. This band is the ultimate Power Metal giant and if you love Metal and do not know them.....you, my friend have committed a great sin. Tim "Ripper" Owens has an absolutely ridiculous vocal range and he once again showcases his Banshee howl on "The Reckoning."

"Ripper" had recently parted ways with Judas Priest to become the front man for Iced Earh after original vocalist Rob Halford returned to the almighty warriors of Metal. Tim's first album with the band, The Glorious Burden (2003), is an examination of many aspects of warfare and military figures who have shaped the modern world. "The Reckoning" is indeed a masterpiece and one of the higlights from this album. The riffage runs deep and the vocals are pure Power Metal gloriosity. Please enjoy \m/

Professional + Robot = PROBOT

I know what you thinking....in fact, you don't even have to say anything and I can read your mind. Only the heinous things in life come to mind when you mention the word "Super-Group". But you must take a step back. and lay the evil attitude aside, for this is the only super group that contains the One, The Only, LEMMY.

I gotta give the props to Dave Grohol. Ya, know who would have thought that inside that little grungy-nirvana kid there lay this Rock N' Roll giant. Dave has not only created a beast with the Rock N' Roll giant Foo Fighters...but then throws it down with the PROBOT.

SO, I bid you adios! And trust that I will never leave you with anything from a Super-group (especially that of Scott-I'mawhineybuttdoucheweasel-Weiland), but in the rare case that I do....It will only be to "SHAKE YOUR BLOOD."

Holiday Update: June 13th, Day of S.O.D.!

Last night while having a few people over for a little cook out in the 100 degree weather, i put the old itunes on random....next thing I knew I was rockin out so hard and so were the others that iwas with. One in particular turned to me and said "Dude, I have not heard this song in forever...who is it?" And I had to chastise him with an angry tone "Its the S.O.D....The STORM TROOPERS OF DEATH"

Needless to say..the rest of the night we chanted "Speak English or Die" and "F*&% the Middle East" and then ripped our faces off to "March of the S.O.D." Therefore I hereby dub June 13th 2010 as S.O.D. Day! Seriously, I you have not listened to them in a while you need to crank it up!!

Dominicus' "Blast Beat Manifesto" of the Week...the Force of the Dragon

Let's be honest. If you listen to an entire DragonForce album in its entirety you will probably never want to listen to them again. Seriously, every song sounds the same as the last song that was just played. I like variety in my metal. I like songs of brutality that make me feel extremely glad to be a metal warrior crusading for all that has been lost in the music....

However, on an album known as "Inhuman Rampage" there is this little jam of a song called "Through the Fire and the Flames" that totally rules the school. Its the kind of jam that makes a drummer want to throw away his drum sticks, put on his elastic stretchy pants that accentuate his plum smuggling dynamo, and find a big frilly shirt accompanied by a thick-ass-glitter-belt, and grab his trusty axe and shred away like these Dragon-Masters.

Therefore, pop this disc in. Listen to the masterfully mastered shredding and I will see you there on the other side of the fire and the flames.

RIP-Peter Steele...Desmondo's Daily offering - "Cinnamon Girl" by Type O Negative

Cinnamon Girl (Album Version)
I must say that I have mass love and respect for Neil Young but Dude most definitely does not rock. Type O Negative is one of the few bands that can take any Folk Rock tune, make it their own and utilize it on a Woldwide face melting mission. I heard this version of "Cinnamon Girl" before Neil's and I absolutely enjoy it more. Check it.....

Death. Destruction. Brutality. Sounds like the basis for a Slayer song, however, you could say that it describes the past several years in Heavy Metal. Steele, Dio and Dimebag were among the best and unfortunately met their early demise. Every time I hear the news of one of my Rock-Fathers passing my heart drops just a little more, and yet the torch to carry this music on, and bring the metal to the masses, burns ever brighter with the will not to relent.

So for me, I will still celebrate when "Holy Diver" rages on the radio, and I will still sing out loud in my deepest voice possible when ever I hear "Black No. 1" And whenever I hear the distinct guitar solos of Pantera, I will raise the horned-fist in the air as a salute to all that which is the metal.

For to honor these men, is to continue to live life to the fullest as they have. And I leave you now, with "Cemetery Gates". One of the greatest songs in these times of loss. But, it is covered by Dream Theater (with a few special appearances, including Dave Mustaine on guitar)...blasphemy? No. A great band carrying on a great song written by a Great Band...as we all must do to keep it alive. God Bless!

RIP - Peter Steele. Desmondo's Daily Offering - "Love You to Death" by Type O Negative

October RustObviously, I am mourning the loss of Ronnie James Dio \m/ but as Carrie and I were cleaning out one of our rooms this evening, I came by a CD that I have not listened to in some time...."October Rust" by Type O Negative. Dio's death was highly publicized but we must not forget that Peter Steele (frontman for Type O) passed from Heart Failure several weeks ago. Type O rocks my Nation and "October Rust" is one of my favorite albums ever. It would deinitely go on my list of "If you were stranded on a deserted island for the rest of your life and could only bring a few CDs, what would you bring?" Peter Steele was a fantastic songwriter who knew how to rock out with the best of them but also had a killer sense for melody. If you are not familiar with Type O Negative or if they have been relegated to one of those bands that you "used to listen to back in the day," please do youself a favor and honor the man's legacy by checking them out. I love this song. Please enjoy...

Daily Dio Tribute - "Dio" by Tenacious D

DioAs promised, here we have my daily homage to the "Master of the Moon." Rather than just putting up another song by Ronnie James (as face melting as it would be) I thought it would be more fun to honor RJD's memory with a fine tribute from JB and KG. Please enjoy.....\m/ RIP - Ronnie James 1942-2010 \m/

\m/ THE METAL SALUTE \M/ THANKS-RJD

Holy DiverRonnie James Dio is known for popularizing the sign of the horns in heavy metal. His Italian grandmother used it to ward off the evil eye (which is known as malocchio, Dio's term for the gesture). Dio began using the sign soon after joining (1979) the metal band Black Sabbath. The previous singer in the band, Ozzy Osbourne, was rather well known at using the "peace" sign at concerts, raising the index and middle finger in the form of a V. Dio, in an attempt to connect with the fans, wanted to similarly use a hand gesture. However, not wanting to copy Osbourne, he chose to use the sign his grandmother always made. The horns became famous in metal concerts very soon after Black Sabbath's first tour with Dio. The sign would later be appropriated by heavy metal fans under the name "maloik", a corruption of the original malocchio. Thank you Ronnie James, for giving us the ultimate "Metal Salute" \m/

Dominicus' "Blast Beat Manifesto" of the Week...Dial "Black Dahlia" for MURDER

I know my absence has been felt within the world of the BRC...however, being that I live in the land of Nashville, we currently took on a bit more of the water than we could handle. Did I have my weak moments??? But of course. Has tragedy struck when there seemed to be no hope? But of course....and that is why we have the Metal.

The past three weeks have been momentous and thus comes the BLAST BEAT MANIFESTO of the WEEK! This week we have been jamming the The Black Dahlia Murder.

Do you feel insane?? Are you looking for the melody and the chaos to bring your cold beating heart to a stop before it is once again resurrected to scare the doubters?? The BDM has many songs of slaughter and insanity to calm even the devastated of souls....but but these jams in and you will melodically find your self swaying to the depth of the deeps with the morbid story telling of the Black Dahlia Murder.

What is he saying?? That's right..the lead singer is like Gollum from Lord of the Rings in the flesh...But with shredding guitars and blistering guitars who really cares...it only makes it that much more epic. Now..sit back and enjoy the madness..

And...if anyone knows where they have "Heavy Metal Bowling Night" let a brother know!

RIP - Ronnie James Dio \m/ "Neon Knights" Daily Tribute

Live from Radio City Music HallEach day this week, I shall post a new video in honor of our beloved RJD, the "Master of the Moon" and the perfector of the usage of the "evil horns." Dr. Beaulivian and I saw him live and in his glory for the last time a couple of Years ago with Heaven and Hell (The true Black Sabbath) at the US Bank Arena. Yes, they did serve up some tasty blues based metal with ozzy but the total jams on the first two albums with Ronnie cannot be touched. I am so thankful I had the opportunity to see Dio rock out one last time. In his mid 60s, the voice and passion were as strong as ever. Please enjoy "Neon Knights" \m/

RIP - Ronnie James Dio (7/10/42 - 5/16/2010)

Evil or DivineToday is a sad, sad day for the World of Metal. Yes, my brethren...the true Godfather of Metal (which Ozzy is not) and the inventor of the "evil horns - \m/," Ronnie James Dio passed on this morning. His amazing voice will be heard no more but fortunately he left us with a fine body of work that is as glorious as it is timeless. Between his offerings with Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath in addition to his masterful solo material, we have access to plethera of metallic glory. Holy Diver, Heaven and Hell, Children of the Sea, We Rock, The Sign of the Southern Cross, Rainbow in the Dark, Stargazer, etc......the list of magnificence goes on and on. Ronnie James will truly be missed and will never be forgotten. Here is one of my faves...please enjoy \m/

Desmondo's Weekly Page Turner - "Fargo Rock City: A Heavy Metal Odyssey in Rural North Dakota" by Chuck Klosterman

Fargo Rock City : A Heavy Metal Odyssey in Rural North DakotaWho said Metalheads were not edumacated??????? Chuck Klosterman is an absolutely amazing writer. His masterful storytelling and witty writing style make "Fargo Rock City" an easy and entertaing read even for folks with serious reading comprehension issues (Yes, that would be me) \m/ The first time I picked it up, I seriously could not put it down until it was through. I first read his book about 7 Years ago and just picked it up again earlier this week. Honestly, it was even better the second time around. "Fargo Rock City" is Chuck's personal memoir about growing up a sexually repressed metalhead in rural North Dakota. This has to be one of the funniest books ever written. Please read this if you get a chance....With a voice that flows like one of Yngvie Malmsteen's guitar solos, Klosterman rides upon and tackles the glorious history of the "Metal of Hair", beginning with that fateful day in 1983 when his older brother brought home Mötley Crüe's Shout at the Devil. Many of us can relate to this. I mean...is this not the was that all metaleads born between 1970-1975 were introduced to "The Metal?" The 11 Year old Klosterman was not quite ready to rock on one time as his hair was too short and his farm was too quiet -- but he still found a way to bang his little 5th Grade head. Before the journey was over, he would slow-dance to Poison, sleep as an unkowing Christin Lad beneath pentagrams and inverted crosses, lust for Lita Ford and Janet Gardner and get radiclly intellectual about Guns N' Roses and Metallica. Here he goes again on his own, going down the only road he's ever known....." \m/\m/\m/\m/\m/

Desmondo's Daily Offering - "Independent" by Sacred Reich

IndependentOk people, this song totally rules and if you deny this fact then I am sorry but I can no longer be your friend. What happened to these guys? I used to listen to them back in the day, owned all of their albums and saw them in concert a few times. Sacred Reich was not the greatest band in the land but they definietly wrote some good tunes, rocked out one time and dropped some plates on that ass for a fun and face melting experience...straight up socially-conscious and political speed metal \m/
Enjoy this "blast from the past." I know I did!

Desmond's Daily Offering - "Three Days of Darkness" by Testament

The GatheringI don't care what anyone says....Testament is hands down the best Thrash Metal Band on the Planet. Yes, Metallica rules and wrote some of the best Metal ever recorded but Testament totally slays in the Thrash arena and indeed they do continus to get stronger with time. In my opinion, "The Gathering" is one of their finest albums and "Three Days of Darkness" is a classic example of the tasty Metal that they continue to conjure up with each release. If "the power of the riff compels you," it is a must that you get down with this band. New Wave of American Heavy Metal lovers of Lamb of God, Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, etc.....bow down and pay homage to the original masters of the Almighty Thrash. Sweet riffage, amazing double bass madness, technical proficiency out the wazoo and the best Cookie Monster vocals ever to go down on record. Please enjoy \m/\m/\m/

Paul Gilbert may have laid down some chedda with Mr. Big back in the day but dude is straight up nasty......

Lean into ItYes, Paul Gilbert is the dude from Mr. Big. In the 1980's he rocked some horribly putird "Cheese Metal" but the fact is that the man can totally shred and writes some killer tunes. Check out this dandy right here....\m/

Desmond's Daily Offering - "Lack of Comprehension" by Death

Choosing Death: The Improbable History of Death Metal and GrindcoreDeath was an American death metal band founded in 1983. The band's founder, Chuck Schuldiner, is considered a "pioneering death metal vocalist/guitarist." Tragically, The band ceased to exist after Schuldiner died of brain cancer in 2001, though Death remains an enduring heavy metal brand.

Death is considered one of the most influential groups in death metal. The band's debut, Scream Bloody Gore, has been described as "death metal's first archetypal document". One music biographer has referred to Schuldiner as the "Father of Death Metal" \m/ while another has claimed that Schuldiner is "readily acknowledged as the true founder of the U.S. death metal scene". Music biographer Garry Sharpe-Young considered Death "a genre breaking band...centred upon frontman Chuck Schuldiner" and that the band "would become one of the prime instigators of the death metal movement".

However, Schuldiner dismissed such attributions by stating, in an interview with Metal-Rules.com, "I don’t think I should take the credits for this death metal stuff. I’m just a guy from a band, and I think Death is a metal band".

As of 2008, Death have sold over 2 million albums worldwide, with over 500,000 copies sold by December 2009 in the US alone (excluding the numerous sales before the SoundScan era) making them the top-selling death metal band worldwide, and only topped in the US by Cannibal Corpse.

After Death disbanded, Chuck went on to form the amazing band, Control Denied. Schuldiner continued to work on his music, continuing his work with Control Denied. About two years after his original diagnosis, in May 2001, the cancer returned and Schuldiner fell ill again. He was originally denied surgery (which he needed immediately) due to lack of funds. A press release called for support from everyone, including fellow artists. Jane Schuldiner urged all who read the statements about Schuldiner and his illness to go out and get insurance, stating her frustration in the American system. Schuldiner had gotten medical insurance after his first surgery, but the insurer had refused to pay because the tumor existed before he had gotten the insurance. Many artists, including Kid Rock, Korn and Red Hot Chili Peppers, got together in Summer 2001 to auction off personal items with the funds assisting Schuldiner's medical expenses. This was covered by MTV. Matt Heafy, vocalist and guitarist for Trivium has also stated that the band had played a benefit show for Schuldiner while he was in the hospital in their days as a local band. Schuldiner received a chemotherapy drug called vincristine to help with his therapy. Like most drugs used in the treatment of cancer, the side effects were harsh and weakened Chuck greatly. In late October/early November, Schuldiner became ill with pneumonia.

Chuck Schuldiner died on December 13, 2001, at approximately 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. He was buried in Tampa, Florida on December 18, 2001 and MTV reported that famed musicians including Mike Patton, Dimebag Darrell, Glen Benton, Ville Valo, Trey Azagthoth and Max Cavalera, along with all of the former and active members of Death, attended his funeral.

Desmond's Daily Offering - "Entrance of the Conflagration" by Trivium

The CrusadeWhen I first heard Trivium, I was instantly brought back to the day when I first discovered Thrash in the 8th Grade. Their earlier efforts rocked out, no doubt but they were still maturinig as a band and Matt was finding his voice. The music on their first two albums was killer but the lame "screamo" vocal garbage was just plain silly. They really came into their own on "The Crusade" album while at the same time, paying tribute to the glorious Masters of Thrash that came Years before.(Metallica, Testamanet, Exodus, etc). "Entrance of the Conflagration" is a song has it all....absolutely majestic riffery, Hetfieldesque vocal stylings and double bass madness.
\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/ A bit of back story on this amazing album......
In April 2006, after a headlining tour featuring Mendeed and God Forbid as openers, Trivium entered the studio with Suecof and Heafy producing again. The band played the Download Festival again, this time on the main stage with Korn and Metallica. Trivium released The Crusade in October 2006. Debuting at number 25 on the Billboard 200, the album sold over 32,000 copies in its first week of sales. The album was a critical success, with Andy Greene of Rolling Stone claiming "Nothing mars a good metal record like so-called harsh vocals" and Don Kaye of Blabbermouth.net stating The Crusade "is one of the best metal releases of 2006 and quite possibly the heavy music album of the year." On The Crusade, Heafy's vocals changed from a metalcore scream that was heard on Ascendancy, to more singing on this album. This new singing style, along with the band's thrash metal music were criticised of sounding too much like Metallica, who was a major influence on the band. Heafy commented on the change:

If anyone is wondering why the screaming is gone it's because the four of us were never into bands that scream and we don't like any of the current bands that scream, so we asked ourselves why we're doing it. This time around I wanted to be a better singer because that's what we wanted to hear, so we dropped the screaming and did a lot of vocal training and vocal work.
—Matt Heafy

The band supported the album by touring with Iron Maiden and Metallica, appearing on the Black Crusade tour with Machine Head, Arch Enemy, DragonForce and Shadows Fall, as well as headlining a European tour with supporting acts Annihilator and Sanctity and acquiring an opening slot on the Family Values Tour with Korn. Trivium was named the best live band of 2006 at the Metal Hammer Golden God Awards.

Desmond's Daily Offerning - "Future Tense" by Sanctuary

Into the Mirror BlackSanctuary was a radically awesome heavy metal band founded in Seattle, Washington in 1985. The band consisted of Warrel Dane (vocals), Lenny Rutledge (guitar), Sean Blosl (guitar), Jim Sheppard (bass), Dave Budbill (drums), and in the end Jeff Loomis.

They released a demo in 1986, which was well received, and that lead them to sign with Epic Records in 1987. They released their debut album, Refuge Denied, in the same year. It was produced by Dave Mustaine, the frontman of Megadeth. Thus followed a tour alongside Megadeth and the German band Warlock. \m/

After the tour, they entered the studio to record their second and final studio album, Into The Mirror Black, in 1990. A video clip for the song Future Tense was made and it received some air play on MTV's Headbanger's Ball. During the tour (with the bands Forbidden and Death Angel), the guitarist Sean Blosl left the band and was replaced by Jeff Loomis.

Shortly after, pressure from Epic Records to fit in with the flourishing Seattle grunge scene caused disagreements between band members (regarding the band's musical direction). So it followed that in 1991, Sanctuary officially disbanded. As killer as they were, this is probably a good thing. Can you picture Warrel singing "Heart Shaped Box?"

Epic Records was to release a full length live recording from this final tour but only a limited number of copies of a promotional live EP ever saw the light of day. It was named Into the Mirror Live.

Refuge Denied and Into The Mirror Black were re-released as a double CD set by IronBird Records on February 22, 2010.

After disbanding, Warrel Dane, Jim Sheppard and Jeff Loomis formed the band Nevermore in 1991. NEVERMORE RULES \M/\M/\M/\M/\M/

Desmond's Daily Offering - "Lost in the Headlights" by Pelican

What We All Come to NeedWhat can I say? Pelican rules and this song is full of bad to the bone, triumphant riffery. Who needs vocals when the thunder is brought like this? If you are not down with the almighty Pelican, I think it is time you get with the program.....\m/.....

Desmond's Daily Offering - "Lament of a Minstrel" by Falconer

Chapters From A Vale ForlornDid I ever tell you that Power Metal rules my Life? In my humble opinion, Falconer is one of the best on the scene these days. If you have not yet sampled the lovely tones of the Sweedish Power Metal Masters, I highly recommend that you pick up any one of the six fine offerings that they have delivered over the last 10 Years. With "Lament of a Minstrel," we find Falconer doing what they do best, transitioning from melodious and delicate folk metal to soaring and epic power metal. The cool thing about Falconer is that they love to tell stories. A good story always enhances the enjoyment of my listening experience. Check out some delicious riffery on this one right here......

Desmondo's Daily Offering - "Forsaken" by Dream Theater

Black Clouds & Silver Linings (3 CD Special Edition)
The odd thing about Dream Theater is that they are so good that at times it causes me not to enjoy them. This is not because I am a jealous and bitter bassist who can't even think about trying to replicate some John Myung four string thunder. I am not in envy of the man but I am in awe of the galloping madness that he can unleash. The dude must have like 38 fingers or something. I am not even worthy of tuning his MusicMan! I say this because when they write, it seems that they focus primarily on using their songs as a platform to showcase their technical proficiency rather than just crafting some "bad to the bone" 4 chord gloriosity. Yes, the players of the Theater that Dreams are no doubt most excellent musicians but I must hereby proclaim that they would rock even harder if they simply spent more time on basic song structures (ala AC/DC Baby)! Dream Theater was formed in September 1985 when guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung, and drummer Mike Portnoy decided to form a band in their spare time while studying at the Berklee College of Music. For those of you who are not familiar with Berklee, let's just say that the musicians that they cultivate generally do not suck (and like a fine Chateauneuf du Pape, they get better with age). Don't get me wrong, I am totally down with the "Art of Shredding" but come on guys, every once in a while it would be a delicious treat for the Metal Realm if in the immortal words of the "Z Man", you decided "pump your breaks," "grease yo skillet," whip up some tasty riffage and keep the Metal straightforward and under 10 minutes a song :)....For when they do embrace their inner Hetfield, Jupiter aligns with Mars, the Moon is in the 7th house, an onslaught of complete and utter awesomeness is unloaded and one divine worldwide face melting crusade is born. In my mind, if they did that more often, they just might be the greatest band of all time! "Forsaken" is a perfect example of the excellence I am referring to. Splendid riffery indeed \m/\m/\m/
P.S. Did I mention I am going to ride upon Cleveland in July to wacth them open for Maiden????????????????
Enjoy....

Do You know the RULES OF ENGAGEMENT?

Let's be honest. Most Christian music totally sucks. There. I said it. And I have not been struck dead because it is the truth. Back in the 80's it was so common for a group of Christian dudes to take perfectly good music like Motley Crue and then give it the Jesus-Twist and call it their own. This movement lasted for a bit....then it slowly died out...that is until the late 90's when a band emerged with more grit and ferocity then even some non-Christian bands.

Out of the ashes of what was left of the Thrash metal scene and heading into the direction of the Hardcore/Metalcore scene arose Living Sacrifice. In my opinion the best Christian Death Metal Band to boot.....If it weren't for the LS crew you would not have the As I Lay Dying, the Demon Hunter, or the August Burns Red.....

Unlike most bands, the have currently a nine album Discography. All of brutality. All of such fantastically fantastical Fantasticness that at first listen you would not conceive that these are a bunch of church boys. In fact, they are one of the only true bands that speak of things like blood, death, war, mutilation, and separation from God within the genre. They are fans of bands like Behemoth and others of brutalness.

So being that today is a Fine Sunday.....please do your soul a favor and get this latest release, The Infinite Order, and prepare to be Destroyed.

Amen to that ya Mutha Preacha.

Desmondo's Daily Offering I'm So Bad (Baby I Don't Care) by Motorhead

The Best of Motörhead.....The other night, on the way home from dropping my Son off at a birthday party, as it was such a beautiful evening I decided to roll the windows down, open the sun roof and let Testament blaze my eyebrows. I was only rolling down the street at about 10 miles an hour. There were two reasons for this:
1. I was in a residential area and there were kids everywhere
2. On this beautiful Summer evening, I was thoroughly enjoying the fresh air and the tasty sounds Chuck Billy & Co and was in no rush to speed home.

It is a good thing that I was driving so slowly because a boy who couldn't have been any older than 3 busted out into the street about 25 feet from my car on some kind of motorized four wheel thingy. I stopped, looked around...fully expecting to see some parental units in the near vicinity. About 20 or 30 seconds go by, nothing....not a single adult in sight. Suddenly, I see the front door to one of the houses come flying open. There, on the front porch stood this dude with what is quite possibly the most glorious mullet I have ever seen. He had a cigarette in one hand, a malted beverage in the other and was wearing a black T-shirt that had a picture on the front of Sir Ian Fraser Kilmister (Not yet Knighted by the Queen but he should be)\m/. The back of the shirt read "I'm So Bad....Baby I Don't Care." He proceeded to take a drag of his smoke, a drink of his brew and shouted at the young lad in the street "Hey boy.....git yer butt up here 'fore I open a can of whoop ass." At this point, I was wondering if I should intervene. Fortunately, an older woman (probably Captain Super Mullet's Mother) who appeard quite sober came out of the house, calmly went to get the boy and broughgt him safely back inside. Before I drove away, I made eye contact with Mr. Motorhead shirt. He looked at me, unleashed a massive Coors inspired belch, enthusiatstically lifted his hand (the one that wasn't holding the beer) to throw me the "horns" and started laughing hysterically before stumbling back into the house. You may be wondering why I am telling you this story. What I am getting at is this, try as you may but it is just wrong put all "Metal Heads" into a single category (as many people seem to enjoy doing). This World is littered with millions of headbanging hooligans. Not all of us don a sweet mullet, get drunk in the afternoon and neglect our Children. We Metal Warriors are a diverse crowd.....we are Bankers (Scrotos), Business Owners(Dr. Beau), Hotel Managers(Dominicus), etc; The list goes on and on. That being said, you can forget about silly stereotypes. There is no need to put us all into a small category...there is enough Motorhead for us all to enjoy.....\m/..

Desmondo's Daily Offering - "The Goatrider's Horde" by 3 Inches of Blood

Fire Up The BladesOk people, here it is....if you consider yourself a fan of Metal and are not down with 3 Inches of Blood, you must get with the program in short order. If you do not, Cam Pipes shall ride upon you in the night, and with broadsword in hand he will proceed to raise holy hell on you and your village. People tell me they sound like Priest, etc. Blah, blah blah...what is your point? Were they influenced by Judas Priest? Yes, I'm sure that they were. So what...Priest kills!! Plus, a lover of Metal can never get enough of the banshee wails. 3 Inches of Blood is a Canadian Heavy Metal band from Vancouver, British Columbia, formed in 1999. They are mostly influenced by the bands involved with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal of the late 1970s and early 1980s (Priest, Maiden, Mercyfule Fate, etc). Before 3 Inches of Blood, Pipes and Hagberg were in a black metal band called Allfather. I absolutely love this band and "The Goatrider's Horde" rocks my World. Please enjoy...

The South Has Risen Again!

Southern Rock can rule the school. In fact, with out the almighty Lynard Skynard bands such as Metallica would have no songs to cover for their "Garage Days 2" album. And without the Southern Rock, the white man wouldn't have learned to dance whilst intoxicated with his mighty brew. And then along came the metal......METAL OF THE SOUTH.

The Name is Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. They have released three albums to date and although they are all good...its "II" that is their best work. If you do not have the brew in your hand...oh you will want one. With your American Flag bandanna on your rusty scalp and your stone washed jeans that you've been saving for that special fourth of July party...well my friends...Go ahead and pull them out, and pop open the PBR. Press "Go" on the ipod/CD player and let the disaster begin.

Here it is..the greatest Southern Rock Metal Song ever written. Not in the mood?? Play it anyway..and just like "Sweet Home Alabama" it gets in your blood. And how dare you say these boys are not metal?!!! A song about getting killed by a bunch of dudes in the woods who throw your body into the river is not only Metal...its life in the Dirty South. Welcome Boys!

Dominicus' "Blast Beat Manifesto" of the Week...How Dead DO You Lay?

An Ocean Between UsThe Apocalypse. The End. The Struggle of good and evil. And the band that bridges the gap. These are the Crusaders of the Metalic "Double Bass Boogie" that destroy all that is within its Path.

Soon to be releasing their 4th Studio album, As I Lay Dying continue to impress the metal scene with their intense drumming and with enough guitar shredding to resurrect the dead. Sure, there are the accusations of them being a Christian Band...but, seriously, So what?? On their latest album, "An Ocean Between Us" they deal with matters of the heart in a most eloquent yet brutal way. To listen to this band, you cannot be faint of heart.

Raise your fists my fellow metal warriors...raise your arms..and bang your heads...prepare for that which is "Within Destruction!"

Desmondo's Daily Offering - "Burn in Hell" by Judas Priest

JugulatorAs most of you are aware, after Rob Halford left Judas Priest in the early 1990s, they hired Tim "Ripper" Owens to replace him on lead vocals. When I heard this was happening, I found it rather laughable that Priest would try to soldier on without Halford. That is until 1997 when my friend who was working at a record store brought me the Jugulator CD that the manager had given him. They had several copies but it was not selling and they needed to unload them. I was driving home from work and decided to pop it in as I was sure it would provide a good laugh. I must say that I was completely blown away. I mean, Halford is bad ass but this album is an amazing and face melting experience. It is a fine offering from start to finish and it is in my humble opinion one of Preist's best......

The entire album seems to describe the end of the world, from the coming of the Jugulator ("Jugulator") to the actual ending of it ("Cathedral Spires"). The Jugulator itself seems to be a metaphor for the evil that is done in the world. Songs like "Dead Meat", "Decapitate" and "Burn in Hell" all describe the evils that humans do. In the end, the evil deeds are so great in number that it consumes and destroys the world. Burn in Hell is a killer cut that you must hear. If you have already heard it, you need to hear it again! \m/ ! Enjoy.....
